On Tuesday, Nov. 21at 5 PM the Johnson and Sons 1875 pipe organ will be dedicated in the first of several events celebrating the arrival and inauguration of the organ at the Templo de Tercera Orden. Several extraordinary works of music will be featured with choir, distinguished soloists, orchestra and of course, the Johnson pipe organ.
The music has been selected in honor of St. Cecilia, the patron saint of music, on the eve of her feast day (which falls on Nov. 22). This will include a Handel organ concierto with orchestra, several solo organ works, as well as the Mexican premiere of the the English Baroque composer John Blow’s cantata “Ode for Saint Cecilia’s Day” (composed in 1691).
This event is for donors and supporters of the organ project, as well as visiting dignitaries from the Franciscan order and governmental officials. Some seats are now available to the general public for a minimum donation of 1,000 pesos to the organ project.
