Biography:CHORALE SAN MIGUEL
We are a community chorus in San Miguel de Allende presenting concerts in large choral format, mainly Masses, Oratorios, a cappella works, and choral and orchestral compositions from four centuries. Our primary venue is the historic Tercera Orden in the San Francisco convent complex, dating from the early 17th century, with excellent acoustics for choral music.
The Chorale is comprised of a core group of 32 auditioned singers, of whom a significant portion are professional singers, joining forces with talented area volunteer choral singers. Auditions will be held periodically to augment the size of the chorus according to programming and performance needs for future concerts. The Chorale draws on local and regional participants, including orchestra musicians from regional professional orchestras in Guanajuato and Queretaro. Artistic Director is Malcolm Halliday, with conducting roles shared with Mauro Ledesma.
ORGAN PROJECT
Chorale San Miguel has purchased a historic 1875 pipe organ, for the Tercera Orden. The organ is being relocated from Massachusetts to San Miguel, and will serve as a concert instrument, recital instrument including participation in the San Miguel Organ Festival, and for general use in the Tercera Orden Chapel. We welcome public participation to fund this exciting project, which adds an important instrument for San Miguel´s musical life.
