When Effie Passero, a classically trained singer from Modesto, California, appeared as a contestant on American Idol in 2018, she made it to the semifinals. But as far as Billboard magazine was concerned, Passero was the “true standout,” whose voice was “such a knockout. As she plays piano and puts her incredible pipes on full display with an original song, it’s no challenge to mentally fast forward all the way to the night of the Idol finale, and see Effie standing in a downpour of confetti. For now, a trip to Hollywood will suffice.”
