Yes, this is an old movie but (despite being made during the despotic rule of Ceucescu) it’s one of the best all-round mistaken identity comedies ever made! A great lead actor, Amza Pellea, one of the best Romanian comic actors carrys this film. The story is based of a character well known in Romania. Nea (uncle) Marin is a very funny peasant- sometimes smart, sometimes simple-minded but always giving rise to a laugh. In this movie, Nea Marin is confused with the American millionaire Juvet. Mr. Juvet’s daughter is kidnapped, the “bad guys” are tracked by another team of bad guys, who also kidnap the girl from the first team, and on to yet more funny complications from there. “Nea Marin, miliardar” is more than a slice from the “Golden Age of Cinema”, and it remains a pure delight.
