Nina Teicholz’s New York Times bestseller, The Big Fat Surprise, upended the conventional wisdom about fat, especially saturated fat, and started a new conversation about diet-related diseases. The low-fat diet was clearly a failure, but how should we eat instead? Teicholz will examine the rigorous evidence for our longstanding views on fat, dietary cholesterol, red meat, the Mediterranean diet, and more—with some surprises about which of these views hold up under scrutiny. How should we eat to avoid disease and maximize good health? Teicholz speaks about not just the science but also the politics and vested interests involved in shaping our understanding of diet and disease.

Teicholz’s work on nutrition, policy, and health has been published in the BMJ, PNAS Nexus (National Academies of Sciences), Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Financial Times, The Atlantic, among many others, and writes the Substack column “Unsettled Science.” She has appeared on numerous podcasts and TV shows including ABC’s Nightline, Good Morning America, CBC Radio, NPR shows, MSNBC, Joe Rogan and more. Her book was named a “must read” by the BMJ and The Lancet, as well as one of the year’s *Best Books* by the Economist, Wall Street Journal and Mother Jones. Nina is the founder of the Nutrition Coalition, a non-profit working to ensure that nutrition policies are based on the best and most rigorous science—work for which she was asked to testify before the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Canadian Senate.

Teicholz is a graduate of Stanford and Oxford Universities and previously served as associate director of the Center for Globalization and Sustainable Development at Columbia University. A reformed vegetarian of 25+ years, Teicholz lives in New York city with her husband and two sons.
