Audition Notice!
The Players Workshop of San Miguel de Allende needs actors for our upcoming play in August (2024).

Have you ever gone to see a play or movie and said to yourself: “I can do that”? Well, this is your chance!

If you have a LOT of experience, a LITTLE experience, or NO experience at all but think you have what it takes to perform in a production, then this is your opportunity.
We are looking for a mixture of people to fill this cast. We are always looking for new faces. Always looking for men, women, young people and folks of all ethnicities.

This is your opportunity to show us who you are. We will also be doing a show in the early winter of 2025, so this is a good time to make yourself known.

Frequently Asked Questions:

What is the play?

The play is called Office Hours, a very funny comedy by Norm Foster. The play consists of 6 different stories, taking place in 6 different offices. Although the stories are very different, they are uniquely linked. The play has 16 characters, but they can be divided up between actors, so the cast can be as few as 5. Actors can be cast for 1 small part or multiple small parts, depending on audition turnout and talent.

When will the play be performed?

The play will be performed on the following days:
August 15, 16 and 17th, 22, 23 and 24th. 8 performances. (2 shows on the Saturdays).

What is involved in an audition?

This depends on the director, the group and the type of show (musical or play or other?).

In this audition:
-You will be required to fill out a quick form with basic contact information and experience (if applicable).
-You will be asked to read various parts of the script, either with production staff or with fellow applicants. This is a “cold read” unless we decide to provide some excerpts from the script in advance.
-Often, you can be asked to read for several characters and read with different people during the audition period. Some directors prefer you stand when auditioning, some will just do table reads. Some shows require character research and scene memorization, but this audition will not require that.

I have never auditioned before; how can I prepare?

There are lots of resources online for audition preparation. You can find monologues to read on your own or dialogues with a friend and experiment with your diversity. Just google “free audition scripts”.

Any Other Tips?

Try to be creative in your audition. If accents are required for a part, do your best. If you can’t pull off the accent, just drop it. These things can be tweaked. Always listen to the director’s instructions. Good actors need to show that they are capable of following instructions. This is as important as your stage presence.

How much time will I need to dedicate to a play?

That Depends on your character(s).
This play requires up to 8 weeks of rehearsal time and 8 shows in the theater. Rehearsals will be scheduled 3 times a week for 3 hours. This doesn’t mean you will rehearse this often. You will only attend rehearsals when you are scheduled. If you are not in a particular scene being rehearsed, you won’t need to attend the rehearsal. You will also be required to learn your lines independently.

Anything Else?

YES! BE ENTHUSIASTIC and TRY TO HAVE FUN
