I, Anna Politkovskaya, Monologue in one act.
Starring: Beatriz Zapata Medinilla.
Directed by: José Luis Mendoza Aubert.
On October 23, 2002, a commando of 40 to 50 Chechen militants, including women equipped with explosives, stormed the Dubrovka theater in Moscow. The terrorists took more than 800 people hostage, demanding the immediate withdrawal of Russian troops from Chechnya. The final assault, carried out by Russian special forces, resulted in the deaths of 130 hostages.
In the midst of this tragedy, Anna Politkovskaya stood out as one of the bravest and most critical voices in the coverage and mediation of the Russian-Chechen conflict.
This monologue recounts Ana's intimate experiences, her relationship with the Russian and Chechen armies, her courageous intervention in the conflict and her staunch adherence to both the truth and respect for the free press, which she defended to the bitter end.
