Event Description
Concert by Son Cubano “Musica, Mujer y Son”
In Afro-Cuban tradition, the role played by women and the feminine is of notable importance: whether in various aspects of everyday life, as well as in religion and in music. Within percussion in a drum ensemble such as bongos, timbales, and congas, the largest drum with the lowest, deepest frequencies has a feminine designation; thus, it is called hembra, while the smallest is known as macho.
In this unique project “Musica, Mujer y Son” by the trio Son de Monte—a trio specialized in Son Cubano, formed by Alberto Gómez on guitar and backing vocals, Victor Monterrubio on percussion and backing vocals, and the voice of Jackeline Chan, a singer from Santiago de Cuba—the trio aims to pay tribute to the voices, melodies, and compositions primarily by women who made their mark and stayed in the collective memory, becoming immortal.
The repertoire selected by the trio includes Danzones, Boleros, Cha-cha-cha, son montuno, cumbia, and salsa—so next Thursday, August 20, you have to attend the concert ready to dance and party in the wonderful courtyard of the Biblioteca Publica d San Miguel de Allende.
