The Conformist is a visually stunning and psychologically penetrating masterpiece that follows Marcello Clerici, a man who seeks acceptance in fascist Italy by repressing his desires and conforming to the brutal ideologies of the regime. Bertolucci's direction is at once elegant and chilling, capturing the architecture of political control with dazzling cinematography by Vittorio Storaro.

Adapted from Alberto Moravia’s novel, the film is a meditation on identity, sexual repression, and the seductive allure of authoritarianism. With its expressionistic style and hauntingly atmospheric score, The Conformist remains one of the most influential works in modern European cinema — a film where beauty and horror intertwine.
