Description de l'événement
Art Show
“Southern Living” by EO Deines
Thursday / Oct 2 / 5pm - ?
44A, 20 DE ENERO SUR / COLONIA SAN ANTONIO
Next to Denver’s Los Olivos
Galeria Ulisa presents its inaugural exhibition ‘Southern Living,’ a series of drawings and paintings by Indiana artist EO Deines (who will be present). Featuring 20+ framed works on paper and a couple-few larger paintings on paper all made in between diaper changings and naps of his newborn baby girl. Deines (pronounced Dy-ness) has pretty much always been a master of sloppy, impulsive behavior taking full advantage of brief moments to shovel piles of libidinal cathexis into both dreamscapes and hellscapes alike. In this new body of work, presented here for the first time globally, he appears to be summoning his muses from the across the lexicon of the deepest American South to aid him in his inner battle against tortuous Daffy Duck demons. Mose Tolliver, James “Son Ford” Thomas, William Faulkner, Three 6 Mafia, Little Richard, Michael Stipe, Foghorn Leghorn, Flannery O’Connor, Harry Crews and Charles Portis have arrived armed to the teeth with ancient notions and sacred tonic. Bottoms up. St. Peter was crucified upside-down, remember? Upside-down on a giant ball floating in space with No True Up and No True Down. And look at the serene stare on the face of The Hanged Man. He’s fine, really. Never better! Ass-over-tit his ego is at long last hushed. Deines’ ‘south’, then, may just be a stand-in for where you go to get relief from the encroaching hounds of time, tearing across whatever you were supposed to have left. A middle-aged hollow-earth where any way you go is down. In a good way!
