Description de l'événement
The Silence of Others | 2018 | Spain / USA | Documentary
Directors: Almudena Carracedo, Robert Bahar | Dur: 96 minutes
With: María Martín, José María Galante, Carlos Slepoy
In Spanish with English subtitles
Programmer: Elías Nahmías
A powerful and moving documentary that explores the ongoing struggle for justice among the victims of General Francisco Franco’s dictatorship in Spain. The film follows survivors, families, and human rights lawyers as they fight to hold those responsible for decades of state-sponsored violence accountable, despite Spain’s 1977 Amnesty Law.
With intimate storytelling and striking cinematography, the documentary captures the pain of those affected by forced disappearances, torture, and political repression, as well as the resilience of a movement seeking truth and recognition. Through the lens of the Argentinian lawsuit against Francoist crimes, The Silence of Others exposes the deep scars left by the dictatorship and questions the cost of a nation’s historical amnesia.
Produced by Pedro Almodóvar, this award-winning film is a poignant reminder of the importance of memory, justice, and the voices of those who refuse to be forgotten.
Following the screening, there will be a discussion with Brad Rockwell.
