David Garza Memorial Event

Last summer, singer/songwriter David Garza, for many years one of the most active and best-loved musicians in San Miguel de Allende, died of cancer at his home in Maryland. David was a native of Galveston County, Texas, and on October 19, 2024, his brother in Texas helped organize a memorial concert for David in San Marcos, near Austin. His friends in San Miguel discussed putting together a similar event, but too many of them were out of town and it never came together.

The time for a San Miguel memorial event for David Garza is at hand. The date is Sunday, October 19, 2025, at 6:30pm, and the place is Johnny’s Piano Bar, Mesones 101 (inside the Hotel Casalinda, across the street from the entrance to the Angela Peralta theater). David was a frequent performer at Johnny’s when the club first opened a dozen years ago.

Several of David’s former musical colleagues will perform a number of his favorite songs. There will be an open mic, available for anyone to share stories or reminiscences of David, or for singers who want to pay tribute in song, with the spectacular Osmar Aquino on piano.
