What does it mean to freely embrace one’s own identity in an environment of invisibility? The hairstyles of four Afro-descendant people from Mexican-Senegalese families serve as the starting point for reflecting.

Following the short film, there will be a conversation with filmmaker, audiovisual artist, international speaker, and Afro-Mexican activist André Lô Sanchez.

Nyanga | Dir. Medhin Tewolde Serrano

During the colonial era, Nyanga was kidnapped off the coast of Africa, brought to Mexico and enslaved. Though forced to work on the master's plantation, he never stopped dreaming of freedom.

Based on historical facts, and using shadow theater and handmade cinema, ‘Nyanga’ is an homage to resistance against colonial chains.
