TALK SERIES “The Mexico-US Security Agenda: A Binational Perspective” Session 1: The Business of Gunrunning: A Policy of Neglect?
Tuesday March 3 @ 10:30 am - 12:00 pm
Event Description
Carlos Navarro has a binational professional background: he worked as a political and media analyst for the CIA’s Open Source Center, producing analysis on Mexican affairs for policymakers, and later served as Head of Strategic Analysis in the Office of the President of Mexico, where he developed public policy recommendations.
Each session, while independent, forms part of a broader cycle exploring the most significant political and social shifts in contemporary Mexican life.
Session 1: The Business of Gunrunning: A Policy of Neglect?
Explores arms trafficking as a central driver of violence in Mexico, fueled by the steady flow of US-made weapons.
Despite Mexico’s legal and regulatory efforts, the trade persists, exposing deep disagreements over responsibility and regulation between both countries.
