Event Description

The “Midnight Mass for Christmas” is an enchanting mass for four voices and orchestra by the French composer Marc-Antoine Charpentier. Written in 1694, the work is based on the melodies of ten French Christmas carols. The mass is regarded as unique in both the composer's work and in the genre, and uses various French noels, performed by an orchestra of strings and flutes with chorus and soloists. Beloved guest organist Charles Raines will preside at the Johnson organ and furnish several lovely interludes based on French Christmas carols. The concert will also feature other carols of the season sung by the chorus.
