Kate Van Doren: The Healing Words Project. exhibition

On March 6, Kate will open a major museum exhibition featuring hundreds of artworks—from paintings and drawings to photographs—from The Healing Words Project, a long-term body of work created in collaboration with women and gender-expansive voices. The project is a global initiative, with much of its recent work being developed alongside participants from San Miguel de Allende, Querétaro, and Mexico City. The project centers women whose lives are marked by resilience, conflict, and healing, using art and self-authored stories to create visibility and connection.

At its heart, The Healing Words Project seeks to uplift women who have faced struggle and hardship by elevating their voices—through shared words, stories, and visual representations created together. These works grow out of real conversations over time, with participants contributing their own written reflections that become part of the artwork itself. The goal is to honor lived experience and inspire viewers of what is possible through healing in art. Because the exhibition opens during International Women’s Month, it is a meaningful opportunity for our region’s media to highlight thoughtful, community-centered work that reflects the creativity and resilience of this community.
