Event Description
A wealthy businessman is about to stake everything on a corporate takeover when his chauffeur's son is kidnapped by mistake. Kurosawa splits the film between a single-room moral confrontation and a sprawling police procedural through Tokyo. The film became the top-grossing Japanese release of 1963 and a genre classic. Its premise was later reworked without credit by Ben Affleck's Animals, which critics widely described as a lackluster, unacknowledged riff on Kurosawa's film.
