Duff Anderson, a Black railroad worker in the American South struggles to maintain his dignity in the face of racism, economic hardship, and social injustice.
After marrying Josie, the educated daughter of a respected preacher, Duff must confront the pressures of building a family while refusing to submit to the humiliations imposed by a segregated society.
