Event Description
"""La Parisienne"" is an exhibition in which five photographers have tried to capture the collective imagination of the Parisian woman. A stereotype, a cliché, an idea about the women of the ""City of Light"".
She wears stiletto heels, swings gracefully and moves between the fashion scenario, that of art and that of her own daily life; she is open and sophisticated.
The Parisian woman is not like any other woman from other capitals. While others rush in their day to day, clinging to a coffee as if it were a vital necessity, the Parisian is not made for the rush; she stops. Time bends around her as she settles on the terrace of a cafe, with a cigarette resting between her fingers and the city slowly unfolding before her eyes. She is often seen dressed with simplicity and care. However, there are moments when she is caught off guard: moments captured on the banks of the Seine River; a woman absorbed in her book, another waiting for a bus or a taxi, suspended in the pause between one game and another.
In Paris, elegance doesn't just lie in heels or haute couture; sneakers also share the asphalt.
For generations, magazines, cinema and literature have shaped the myth of the Parisian woman: a fascination born in the nineteenth century, when she already captivated those who were beyond their borders. But Parisian elegance is not a disguise; it is a way of inhabiting the world. It is an attitude - self-confident and serene - in which intelligence meets irreverence, and natural grace leaves room for ingenuity and distinction.
Although marked by shared obsessions, these five photographers have managed, each in their own way, to capture the paradigm of the Parisian woman: a woman who rebels and reveals herself. It is beautiful, ingenious and sensual, but, above all, it lives in perfect symbiosis with a city that breathes both modernity and a rich historical legacy.
From Henri Cartier-Bresson to Robert Doisneau, passing through Helmut Newton, everyone has succumbed to the spell of trying to unravel the mystery of these women.
Introducing the photographers: Helmut Newton, Guillermo Kahlo, Patrick Chelli, Daniel Waks, Claudio Mansour and Antonio Ibarra. They offer us their particular vision of the Parisian woman through impressive black and white photographs:"
