Quebranto. A documentary film by Roberto Fiesco
Mexico | 2013 | Rating: B | Language: Spanish
Tuesday, June 10 | 5:20 pm | Free admission
The key to the film lies in the transgender condition of Coral, whose real name is Fernando García, who began his career as a child actor in Mexican cinema and in his youth decided to embrace himself as a woman.
The film explores the close and loving relationship between Coral and Doña Lilia, her mother, based on their daily life in the bustling and sordid environment of Mexico City's Downtown area.
Quebranto is crafted from the reconstruction of Coral's life, from her beginnings as "Pinolito," a child actor in the movie "Caridad" (1972) by Jorge Fons, to her current routine as a choreographer for quinceañeras.
Fiesco does not limit himself to the traditional documentary format, combining talking heads with diverse materials, but also incorporates small doses of fiction through staged scenes that bring freshness and dynamism: there are musical sequences that showcase Coral and her mother.
