Event Description
Too hot? The best cinema awaits you in a cool paradise, Teatro Santa Ana
Under the Skin | 2013 | Dir. Jonathan Glazer
English Audio. Spanish Subtitles
A radical exercise in atmosphere, symbolism and pure sensoriality. A cinema that does not explain, that discomforts, that hypnotizes.
Glazer does not seek to tell us a story step by step, but to throw us into a sensory experience. The film is very loosely based on Michel Faber’s novel, but moves away from the literary to embrace the visual and the auditory as dominant languages.
The figure of Scarlett Johansson – an alien who seduces men to harvest them as meat – functions as a mirror of ourselves. The film inverts the classic dynamic: she is the hunter, they are the victims. But soon, that power becomes empty.
The coldness with which she executes her actions begins to crack. And there begins something akin to the discovery of empathy… or humanity. But it is a confused, contradictory, painful humanity.
