Event Description
Too hot? The best cinema awaits you in a cool paradise, Teatro Santa Ana
Esto no es una película | 2011 | Dir. Jafar Panahi, Mojtaba Mirtahmasb | 75 min
Audio: Persian. Spanish subtitles
A piece that defies the very category of “film”.
This is not a film, it is resistance cinema, cinema as an act of civil disobedience, as a testimony of a reality where filming is a crime.
Panahi, under house arrest and sentenced to 20 years without being able to direct, chooses to do the only thing he can: filming himself “not making a film”.
This is not a film but a muffled scream. Oppression is not shown with physical brutality, but with the suffocation of the everyday. Panahi, in his apartment, with his books, his television and his turtle is trapped, not only physically, but symbolically: a filmmaker deprived of storytelling.
There is a quiet courage in documenting silence. There is a shattering force in filming impotence. Panahi turns censorship into raw material. Absence becomes presence.
