Event Description
Experience the Cervantino International Festival from the Teatro Santa Ana in Biblioteca Pública.
Enjoy the broadcast of the dance show “El tradicional ritmo de los norteños” by Ballet folklórico de la Universidad de Guanajuato.
Dur. 120 min
In the vast and rich region of northern Mexico, where the wind blows freely across deserts, plains, and mountains, a rhythm was born that learned to converse with the world. A cadence that arrived accompanied by distant footsteps and movements, by foreign hands, and by sounds that crossed the seas to find a new voice in our country.
In the mid-19th century, the arrival of European immigrants brought with it the accordion and rhythms such as the polka, the redova, and the chotis. This blend gave rise to a unique sound that transformed the traditions of states like Nuevo León, Chihuahua, and Tamaulipas into symbols of national pride.
The traditional norteño rhythm celebrates this cultural fusion. Under the direction of maestro Roberto Martínez Rocha, the University of Guanajuato’s Ballet Folklórico showcases the diversity of styles, costumes, and dance forms that characterize the region’s various states.
