The San Miguel de Allende Folkloric Ballet of the House of Culture was formed in 1975, at the “El Nigromante” Cultural Center of the National Institute of Fine Arts, under the direction of Maestro Gloria Rodríguez Navarrete, its founder.

The aim of the Ballet is “to preserve our traditions and identity and to satisfy the public with programmes full of life, joy and passion.”

The Ballet's career includes a large number of performances in our city, surrounding areas and several states of the Republic. The Ballet has been invited to participate in regional, national and international events.

Since the beginning of the Ballet, one of its main objectives has been to rescue the folklore of its municipality, which has a great diversity of dances that had been lost over time. In 1998 it was officially recognized as the “Representative Folkloric Ballet of San Miguel de Allende of the House of Culture”.

The Ballet was one of the main initiators of the “Reseña de la Alborada” and also of the new activity of the traditional Pastorelas.

The Ballet has more than 50 members in 3 groups: Children, Youth and Youth/Adults.

There are currently 50 families involved, proud of their participation in the Ballet, who invest time and resources to facilitate rehearsals and purchase costumes for the dancers.
