Enjoy the recorded performance of the play Kilombo, featuring the participation of individuals from the Federal Social Reintegration Center No. 12 ‘CPS-Guanajuato’ in Ocampo.
The play mixes reality and fiction, where two symbols and leaders of the African resistance in Brazil show, without ignoring the mistreatment and hardships they lived in slavery, the essence of their communities called “Kilombos”.
In the middle of the 16th century, African and Afro-descendant groups in Brazil escaped from slavery and united in communities they called Kilombos. They turned their resistance into a home, filling it with dance and music.
Kilombo is the freedom of the heart, of the roots of a people that, oppressed, found freedom, a freedom that does not confront anyone, nor against anything.
