Two years ago this month, a stunning rendition of Charlie Parker’s “Donna Lee” earned Lucía Gutiérrez Rebolloso, then 21, the top prize in the 11th Annual Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition, which took place in front of a live audience at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark.
A concert tour followed, including two dates at Jazz at Lincoln Center. Her first full album, produced by Grammy-winner Matt Pierson, will include jazz standards (“What a Difference a Day Makes,” “You Must Believe in Spring,” etc.), along with classic Spanish songs and current pop songs.
Lucía will be one of four headliners in this year’s San Miguel City of Jazz Festival – free outdoor concerts in the Jardin – which this year also includes a concert by the Gipsy Kings. Her outdoor concert will take place at 8pm on Friday, November 15.
By special request from Boleto City, Lucía Gutiérrez and her pianist, Paquito Cruz, will give a far more intimate show at Johnny’s Piano Bar, Mesones 101 (across from the main entrance to the Teatro Angela Peralta), on Thursday, November 14.
