The restoration of the San Miguel Playhouse at its new location is underway. To help accelerate the process, Casa Papaya, a favorite culinary destination in San Miguel (five stars on TripAdvisor), has generously volunteered to host a benefit event at 3pm, on Friday, January 17.
The proprietors of Casa Papaya, Lee Duberman and Richard Fink, are restauranteur expatriates from Vermont. Lee graduated first in her class from the Culinary Institute of America, in New York. For the benefit, Lee and Richard are preparing a delectable assortment of hors d’oeuvres and sweets, to be served with red and white wine. A few sample items: cheese puffs, mini latkes with sour cream and smoked salmon, Thai meatballs, spanakopita, shortbread cookies, lemon squares.
For entertainment, three of the most talented vocalists ever to perform at the original San Miguel Playhouse — Tara Lynne Khaler and Ulises de la Cruz (both of whom were stars of the Sondheim revue presented in April 2023), and Katy Chan (who got a standing ovation at the 2022 Holiday Special) — will be on hand to sing.
