Experience the Festival Internacional Cervantino (FIC) from the Teatro Santa Ana at La Biblioteca.
This year the guests of honor at this cultural festival are Brazil and Oaxaca.
And FIC decided to share this experience with us.
Enjoy the screening of the concert Cantos del mar by Alejandra Robles “La Morena”.
Her concerts, full of dance music, speak of Mexican coastal life. “La Morena” performs in clothing that represents her community: the Costa Chica of Oaxaca. Each song evokes the theme of the third root and the history of blackness in Mexico.
The piano marks the tumbaos and the breathing instruments invite the body to move, while Alejandra tap dances on a wooden platform, waving a red handkerchief as a sign of celebration.
Alejandra Robles “La Morena” was born in Puerto Escondido, in the Costa Chica region of the state of Oaxaca. From an early age she showed interest in music and dance, especially the sounds and chilenas of Guerrero and Oaxaca.
She was encouraged by her father who accompanied her on the guitar, but her inspiration came from her maternal grandfather from San Marcos, Guerrero, a traditional Afro-descendant musician, pioneer of the trios in Oaxaca, who began singing in the restaurant where the trailers were parked.
“La Morena” moved to the city of Oaxaca at the age of fifteen and began studying singing and contemporary dance at the Escuela de Bellas Artes in Oaxaca. At the age of twenty she entered the Classical Singing career at the Universidad Veracruzana.
