Rickerl is not just another movie about the typical Vienna “loser”, because it benefits from a combination of excellent storytelling (it has quite some autobiographical background), a high level of detail, powerful directing and is blessed with a wonderful cast, where every character is really so authentic, that it almost hurts when you watch them living their daily, sometimes miserable lives. Voodoo Juergens shows a terrific performance, but the highlight in terms of casting is definitely Ben Winkler as Rickerl’s son Dominik!
